Beating the easter egg blues

As we head into April (and the final two weeks of the term), our senior students are keeping their hard-working momentum up. Here is where each level are up to:

Level 1/Year 11's - Achievement Standard 91072. For this they need to write a report. Lots of literacy and writing skills have been covered leading up to this assessment. Students should be doing at least 2 hours a week of homework so they can make the deadline for this one (end of week 10).

Level 2 - We're part way through US 2786. Students plan and make a database for a commercial setting. This should be completed by the beginning of next week.

Level 3 - I've just read their draft report essays for US 5968. We're on track to finish over the next few days. Students need to spend at least 2 hours a week working on this at home.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This week we start a new Digi-Tech rotation with the Year 9's - this is the second 6 week rotation for 2016 and I'm looking forward to meeting new faces tomorrow (Thursday) when we have our first lesson.

The Year 10's have just this morning begun their Presentations topic. They're brushing up on Power Point skills and learning how to create a well-designed and evenly-balanced set of slides. This topic leads to an NCEA assessment that will give them another 3 credits to carry over into year 11.

I'm super proud of this particular group because they really work hard and commit themselves fully into whatever they're learning. Last week we spent some time working with Scratch and learning how to animate, program and design a scene. We're hoping to use this topic next term to create a collaborative digital project for the school... watch this space - we're excited about it... I will post an update when we've been given the thumbs up from higher up to go ahead, of the details.
