Graphic Manipulation
OPTIMISING GRAPHICS FOR USE ONLINE
Objective: To create a graphic/picture that can be uploaded for use on a web page. Ideally a photo should load quickly, but still retain life like quality. This means that it should appear crisp and clear without any blurring or pixelation. Examples:
LIGHT & SHADING
Both these blocks are grey in colour. Place a finger across the middle line of the picture. You can see how light and shading can affect our perception of colour in graphics. It can also add depth to a simple object like the ground shadow does in this same picture, adding another dimension.
PHOTO: TREE FERNS & ROCKY STREAM >
Which do you think is the better image? What are the differences between each?
PHOTO EDITING TECHNIQUES
The original photo (left), has had two changes applied to it:
A sepia filter has been applied to the outer, selected area of the photo.
The photo has been sharpened up to reduce a slight blurry area present in the centre of the photo.
